A 14-year-old boy was discovered deceased just days after being falsely blamed of taking the cremated remains of a deceased infant during a burglary, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Discovery

The young boy's mother and father found his body in his room at his Flintshire home on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Allegations Start

The inquest learned how his mother received a communication on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a individual asking if Kai was her child. The message stated: "Inform him thanks for burgling my flat."

In a statement presented to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the media, claiming her infant's ashes had been stolen in a break-in - a allegation which was untrue.

Police Investigation

An investigation report from police later concluded the alleged burglary victim had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that said items was not taken in the beginning".

News coverage about the alleged taken remains attracted online comments, and although Kai was not identified in the posts, his mother said individuals "understood it was him".

The "online posts were really upsetting", she stated.

Mental Wellbeing Impact

She explained that her son had been identified with moderate ADHD, and as part of that condition, other peoples' opinions genuinely mattered to him.

"This must have affected him severely," she said, "especially when this was not true".

The teenager was arrested at his residence, but nothing was found. He was transported to a police station and later released under investigation.

Police said they would be in touch, the hearing learned, but had failed to contacted the relatives by the time of his passing.

Withdrawal and Anxiety

His parent said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "a minute could seem like days".

When she talked to him about the alleged incident, she said her son told her he had gone into the house because the resident who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he wanted, but denied removing anything.

Online Bullying

In a combined testimony between her and her husband, the mother said her child was being harassed digitally after the allegations.

The inquest heard that one young adult encouraged Kai to kill himself.

She had no worries on the night before he died, describing how she had heard him "laughing and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, loving" young man, and said her "family is completely shattered".

He had been "clearly hiding his worries", she stated, adding that he could not stand to have anybody "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Response

The hearing heard from educational staff at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On November 8th, she "heard some students talking that Kai had been detained and that was the first I learned".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the conversation, the educator said she called Kai's family telephone and left a message saying she had communicated to the student about the allegations.

The proceedings learned his family said they did not got that message.

Formal Finding

Senior coroner informed the hearing he would await documents regarding what improvements had been made to handling individuals with the condition, before determining whether he should make a prevention of subsequent fatalities report.

Delivering a narrative conclusion, he stated: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young child.

"Likely falsehoods were subsequently embellished and amplified through the platform of social media.

"During November 11th, he was questioned by the police and after his questioning he was released whilst investigations continued."

The coroner concluded: "There is no evidence that the acts or failures of any organization led to or contributed to his passing and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted act it is not possible to discern his intent."
